Decoding Missouri Amendment 3
A Guide to Understanding the Language of Missouri's Amendment 3 Ballot Initiative
Three members of the Missouri Supreme Court have recently recognized that the drafters of Missouri's Amendment 3 have broken the law to prevent voters from knowing its true effects. It is imperative that Missourians understand Amendment 3 before voting on November 5.
The below voters' guide decodes the language of Missouri's Amendment 3 to help inform Missourians how to rightly interpret Amendment 3.
“This radical Amendment is not just a ‘vote on abortion rights.’ If voters read the actual text of the Amendment, they will see that it gives a permanent right to ‘all matters relating to reproductive health care,’ including abortion, to all Missourians, even children, which cannot be limited even by parental consent laws," noted Mary Catherine Martin, Thomas More Society Senior Counsel. "Missourians do not want to permanently commit to supporting, even with our taxes, every reproductive technology, now and in the future. If voters learn what this really does, they will oppose it."
